I extend a warm welcome to dear friends, colleagues and learners who had completed and also those who have and are likely to join the e-based program launched by NIDM in a self learning mode.
NIDM, a statutory body under Disaster Management Act 2005, has been conducting various programmes on capacity building since its inception in the direction of fulfilling its mandate and addressing the issue of mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into development by building capacities of civil servants, ministries/ departments of Centre and State Governments, NGOs, private sector and civil society. Despite all these efforts, NIDM was not able to reach out to all stakeholders.
In order to enhance its reach to sensitize people about disaster management, NIDM adopted to launch online self study and web-based courses. Through self study mode, NIDM has launched courses on different aspects of disaster management and people from every corner of the country have been joining these courses and getting sensitized. This sensitization has also contributed in reducing the impact of disasters as community at large is being made aware through these courses.
Recently, in the year 2015 Sendai declaration, under Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR), has also emphasized on understanding risk and use of technology in risk reduction activities. These courses are addressing these two priorities of SFDRR.
The uniqueness of this program is that participants are getting exposed to different contents through a very easy learning process, listening to videos from experts in their respective fields. To further enhance the capacity, a self evaluation mechanism is inbuilt in these courses, which enables the participants to monitor their own progress.
Thus the objective of these courses is to enhance the information, enhance the knowledge and enhance the skills to not only save oneself but also help others to be safe.
Thank you very much to all.
